Weekly Head of School Note - 9/13/21

September 13, 2021

Dear Summit Family,

I hope you enjoyed the weekend! Welcome back to our 9th and 10th grade! We hope they all had an amazing experience in Wyoming and look forward to their return to campus next week (after their week of “home learning” this week)! The Wyoming trip has become a hallmark of the high school experience at Summit, and is rooted in our central belief of whole-child and place-based education. At Summit, we believe that student experiences beyond the classroom--be it in Wyoming or here in Cashiers--foster connections and new perspectives that are integral to our students developing the confidence, leadership, and interpersonal skills that prepare them for success in college and beyond. A special thanks to Mrs. Bennett, Mr. Loyd, Mr. Robinson, and Mrs. Hudson for facilitating this experience for our 9th and 10th grade students this year!

This Wednesday and Thursday, our 8th grade students will be venturing into the wilderness of the Nantahala National Forest for an overnight water monitoring field experience, applying their learning about the pH scale in 8th grade science.

Also this week, we look forward to opening up registration for Afterschool Clubs for our fall term (September - November). Please look out for an email this week with registration information, which we will also post on our website.

Finally, just a reminder that this Friday is a Faculty Work Day and there is no school for students.

Thank you for your continued support.

Climb on!

Kurt
