Weekly Head of School Note - 10/4/21

October 4, 2021

Dear Summit Family,

Fall is here, and with it we are only a few weeks away from SummitFest! Special thanks to Kelly Greene and all of our parent volunteers for planning what is sure to be an outstanding event for students and families! There are still volunteer spaces available to help out! Please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4eacab2aa4f4c34-summitfest to sign up. Students, don’t forget to submit your Jack-O-Lanterns by Wednesday, October 13 at 8:30 am for our annual contest. Thank you for your support!

Congratulations to our 4th graders for putting together an impressive Market Place on Friday. It was impressive to see them apply all they have learned about entrepreneurship and economics to work as each student brought their hand-made products to market. Well done, 4th grade! Special thanks to Summit parents Kelly and Justin Kingsland for volunteering their time last week to share with our students about their business at Highlands Excursions and their experiences as entrepreneurs as our students developed their own business plans, and of course, to Mrs. Buck for organizing such a relevant project for our students to apply their learning.

This week we’re excited to host our annual Book Fair in the Summit Library! Students will have the opportunity to shop the Book Fair during their scheduled library time this week, before and after school with a parent from 7:45 - 8:15 am 3:30 - 4:00 pm, and can also shop online at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/summitchartersch1.

Also this week, our 2nd grade will be heading off campus for their Camp DEAR experience, an afternoon filled with reading a good book in the solitude of the outdoors, capped off with s’mores around a campfire. Special thanks to Mrs. Bennett for coordinating this experience for our 2nd grade, and to Camp Merrie-Woode for allowing us to host Camp DEAR on their grounds this year!

Thank you for your continued support.

Climb on!

Kurt
