Special Education Opportunities
Summit Charter School receives limited Federal funding for a Special Education Program to serve the needs of various types of exceptional students. Funds are also used to provide an interpreter and adaptive technology for the hearing impaired, and to contract for speech therapy for children with varying degrees of language and articulation problems.
Local educational psychologists administer educational and psychological evaluation and consultation. Additional grant funds may be used to purchase supplies and computer software to support our Special Education Program.
Our certified Special Ed. teacher works closely with a planning team to make decisions regarding each student's education program. She maintains all records according to the procedures outlined by the NC Department of Education. All exceptional children may participate in the overall regular education program, including art, music, physical education and extracurricular activities.
All buildings on campus are handicapped accessible. By using the inclusion model, Summit Charter School effectively meets IEP goals with minimum disruption to the students' daily participation in the regular education program. We will serve the needs of all exceptional students enrolled in our program.
