Summit Charter School
Policies and Procedures
We are convinced that a new vision of elementary education is urgently required, one that presents a comprehensive, practical plan of action based on the best practices that would be appropriate for every school.

With the ratification of the Charter School Law in June 1996, North Carolina joined a national movement that began in 1991 to promote innovation in public education. According to a report by the North Carolina Board of Education, “For many years, the creativity and strength of both public school teachers and administrators have been stifled by a system that has esteemed uniformity more than modernization.”
Summit Charter School was established by contract between the school’s Board of Trustees and the North Carolina State Board of Education to address this issue. Summit is a tuition-free, public school. Operational expenses are supported by state and local tax dollars. Additional funds for capital expenses and educational innovation are generated through private fund raising.
Today, we are a school of extraordinary excellence, helping to shape the "whole" child, academically, emotionally, and physically
