Music Program
Summit Charter School is pleased to provide its students and the surrounding community with a comprehensive music program. Our younger students start their music education with Orff-Schulwerk; a unique child-centered approach to teaching and learning music and movement based on the work of composer Carl Orff. Through speech, song, dance, and play, children are actively involved in making music using an array of melody and percussion instruments.

Upper elementary and middle school students continue their music experience using Summit's Yamaha Music in Education system; a technology based music education program that combines electronic keyboards with an exhaustive curriculum to provide not only piano skills, but a broad understanding of musical concepts and an aesthetic respect for music and its culture. Summit Charter School's music program provides our students with strong skills that better prepare them for Summit's challenging classroom curriculum.

Students in basecamps 4 – 8 are also encouraged to participate in Music in the Mountains. This community instrumental program involves students from Summit, Blue Ridge School, and the local home school collective.
