Great Beginnings
in Kindergarten!
Kindergarten at Summit Charter School consists of children that are increasing their understanding of life through new experiences. The daily schedule provides activities that are challenging, yet fun-filled. To meet student needs, a math, language arts, science and social studies curriculum, as well as weekly specials in Spanish, Art, Physical Education and Music enhance and encourage learning.
Throughout the year thematic units keep enthusiasm high and continually encourage student involvement. The children especially like learning about themselves at this age. However, animals and their habitats in our native area easily heighten children's interests, too. Our snail unit is just what the children ordered to make learning exciting and motivational. Living in a temperate rain forest offers a variety of opportunities to learn about the environment from butterflies, to bears, to frogs, to weather, to an abundance of trees and even the wetlands.
Students in Kindergarten learn about relationships through multi-age groupings. The powerful influence and communication with older students even encourages practicing our virtues. Our fifth grade "buddies" are always available to help kindergarteners express themselves. "Precious Moments" is another time when self-expression and participation in the classroom is encouraged. Our goal is to provide a creative and nurturing educational environment that motivates the children to seek excellence in themselves and each new undertaking.
Many parents volunteer in the classroom and truly get involved in their child's education. They help individual children with reading, writing and math skills. Spending the day in Kindergarten is a fun way to spend the day for students, teachers, and parent volunteers alike!
