Eigth Grade
Language Arts:
Annie Stone also teaches Language Arts in the 8th grade. Reading, writing and grammar are emphasized. WriteSource 2000 is used as the resource guide. Your Brother Sam is Dead bay Collier and Collier is studied in the fall, and a Newbery Award winning novel is chosen individually by students to read in the spring. Short stories, poems, and informational pieces are read throughout the year. High level writing tasks are assigned, for example on moral and ethical dilemmas. A Science based research paper is completed, as well as an Appalachian Trail paper and speech contest. The students also write for ExploraVision, a national Science competition.
